I was born in 1956 to Howard and Vincenza Mistretta, I have 5 sisters and 1 brother, and they each married and in turn have given me 22 nieces and nephews. I grew up in Long Branch, New Jersey and although I have traveled and lived in different places, home is here on the Jersey Shore. I attended Long Branch high where I took creative writing classes for the first time.I realized my love of books at a very early age. I love books, I love reading books, I love the feel of books and look of them. Sometimes I go to the library or the bookstore just to be among them. I also started to write short stories at a very young age, and read them to my mother, she being the wonderful mom she was listened to and loved everything I wrote. My first favorite author was Beverly Cleary – author of the Henry and Ribsy books and the Beezus and Ramona books. But my very favorite book when I was a child is Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White. As an adult I enjoy the writings of Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Janet Evanovich and Sophie Kinsella – among my very favorite books are King’s Under the Dome and Lisey’s Story – Dean Koontz’ One Door Away From Heaven and the Odd Thomas series. And I can’t leave out the Harry Potter series – I loved the books and the movies – and more recently The Hunger Games, which was actually a surprise to me that I actually love the series like I do.I went to Utah Valley State College, now a University, when I was 40 and took more creative writing classes. I wrote many short stories there which are now a part of collection called Weekend Shorts. I once wrote a term paper on Chernobyl and my professor stated on the paper that it ‘read like a who dunit’. It’s always been my dream to write a novel and that dream came true on July 7th of 2013 when I finished Out of Time. It took a year, almost to the day to complete. I honestly thought agents would be knocking themselves out trying to represent me – but in the end I found a small publisher who shortly after publishing me dropped me and I, with the help of a friend learned to publish myself – which turned out to be the best thing that’s happened since.I have never married and live a very quiet life with my 3 kitties Boo, Chipee and Lucy.
