Let's get started!

This is a follow up to my first question. Now that I know what your 11 Keys To A Thriving Life are, could you say a little bit more about what you talk about in your key of love? It seems to me that love is merely a commonplace emotion. It is talked about endlessly! What's your take on love?

Mar 6, 12:48AM EST0

Hi again PUKEKO,

Thanks for your follow up question! I appreciate your willingness to engage in this conversation!

The KEY OF LOVE was a challenge to write about for sure. It would be great if you could read my book as it does address your question directly. But, until the book is available for you to read, let me elaborate a bit here on my thoughts on The KEY OF LOVE.

First, let’s explore what Love is not.

There are entire segments of the population living on the planet today who view "love for one’s fellow man/fellow woman" as a weakness and "love of oneself" as selfishness.

Most of society invalidates love as even  a rational basis for decision or action of any kind.

Major segments of society around the world today operate on the level of lovelessness. Both love and gratitude rarely appear in day to day exchanges, both in life and work.

Love is belittled as “touchy feely” and therefore on most occasions socially restricted to romance, mothers and their children, or to one’s cat or dog. Anywhere else, love is often considered an embarrassment.

It would also appear that there are even few masculine areas where love is considered appropriate, with the exceptions being love of family, sports, one’s car or one’s country.

Many people are focused on what love is not, so since what we focus on expands,  these people find themselves lonely and with little, if any, genuine Love in their life.

As a world population, we don't seem to be able to agree what love is, so there is tremendous confusion about it. It would appear that the vast majority of humankind really prefers and wants gain, pride, possessions, power and the right to revenge and retaliate with punishment.

What Love Is.

Love is a way of seeing, experiencing, and interpreting life.

One can consider applying the KEY OF LOVE to one’s life by focusing on Love itself.

Love is actually present everywhere, and its presence only needs to be recognized and realized for the quality of Love to become activated in one's life.

True Lovingness is a way of relating to the world. It is a generosity of attitude that expresses itself in seemingly small but very powerful ways. Love can express itself as a genuine wish to bring happiness to others, to lighten their load, or to brighten their day.

Becoming more loving  hugely contributes to a person’s Thriving Life. At the same time is a very realistic spiritual goal to aspire to.

Love is within all that exists and a quality of the Divinity of Creation and is therefore in everyone and in everything.

The choice of travelling the loving road to a Thriving Life is present everywhere and available equally to all. Gods Love, like the sun, shines equally on all.

The Obstacles To Love

At first, once you really start paying attention, you may be confronted (as I did and explain in my book) with the unsettling new awareness of all the many ways in which you discover that as hard as you may try, you are not feeling or being truly Loving.

With practice, these aspects/obstacles to love, and areas where you feel blocked to being able to express Love in your life, can be observed, forgiven as a part of being human. In other words, we accept that our lessons on learning how to become more Loving are part of the inevitable road to actually becoming a more Loving person.

A conscious choice to apply The KEY OF LOVE at all times and without exception influences all of my thoughts, words and actions,  toward others and also toward myself.

Eventually, by practicing the KEY OF LOVE one discovers that Love is actually a state of Being. At that point, one’s life then becomes the expression of Love, and that realization becomes the way to realizing that one’s Self Is Love.

For much more on the subject of the KEY OF LOVE, how it plays out in real life and especially how it totally doesn’t always meet our expectation of "The Hollywood Ending," please feel free to read my book.

I hope this answer at least in some way addresses your very good question about both Love and THE KEY OF LOVE. If you have another question, feel free to ask!

Have you based your theories on scientific research or personal belief and what compelled you to start writing, concerning this topic?
Mar 2, 11:33AM EST0

Hi JANESDESCONE,

When you read my book, you will discover that I quote quite a lot of scientific research and also share my personal experiences. I tried to apply many different scientific and spiritual theories, and learned about many theories that both did and did not work, as I made my way to the Thriving life I live now! Lol!

What complelled me to start writing about this topic was I wanted to make sense of my life and understand the consequences of my choices. Now that I consider your question more deeply, I also wanted to leave at least some record of my life experience here on earth in case I died before my grandchildren were born. If they - or anyone else for that matter - ever wanted to get to know who I was as this person with the name Mary Anne Dorward - this book would be waiting for them.

I hope this sufficiently addresses your question. If not, please feel free to ask another.

What do you miss most about acting on stage?
Mar 2, 11:29AM EST0

HI DTWATSON85,

Ah great question. I really loved acting on stage (and film and TV and radio) and I do miss the feeling of collaboration and camaraderie with all the incredible and talented people I worked with in that whole wonderful world of theatre, film and radio.

My mentor Lee Strasberg, Founder of The Actors Studio, told me before he died that I had all the talent and drive I needed to accomplish anything I ever wanted in the acting profession - on stage or off.  So, truth be told, and if I move myself a little deeper into your question, I observe that  I have always felt all my life that in some way by my choosing a different path*, I had let Lee Strasberg, my trusted Mentor and incredible Teacher, down as I never fulfilled the destiny as an actress which he saw so clearly, suppored so fully, and worked so hard to nurture. This wondering out loud now is not regret so much as curiosity, as Lee was so sure I would "be so famous" for my innate and God given/gifted talent, and neither of us ever got to see if he was right! Not in this lifetime anyway! But even that curiosity about "what might of been" is a trap specially designed by my own ego to keep me focused in the past and only reflects vanity which I don't have any use for now. Lol.

So with what acting experience I did have on stage, and for as long as that wonderful period of my life lasted, I  loved the creativity, the collaboration in a performance with amazingly talented people, and the energy of standing on a Broadway stage and feeling the floor rumble as the audience rises to their feet in a joyful standing ovation at the end of a performance. There is nothing quite like that experience of performing on Broadway in NYC in any other profession that I have ever been involved with since...

I hope this addresses your question. If not, feel free to ask another.

*(FYI, I made a death bed promise to a dying mother to "always take care of" her son, the man who became my first husband a month later. Thus, I chose to defer my own acting talents and professional drive into placating another person. You will have the opportunity to read more about this story in my new book BTW. But anyway, I chose to give birth to and nurture two beautiful children whom I adore as well as nurturing my first husbands writing work, helping boost his low confidence in himself so that ultimately he was able to reach his own dreams of becoming an award winning and Pulitzer Prize winning writer, among many other writing accolades.  While I celebrate his amazing achievements as a writer, I chose to keep what I believed was an iron clad promise to his dying mother rather than realizing I could - and had the full freedom to choose at any moment - pursue my own dreams of being an actress on stage. So your question is actualy adressed in my book too in even greater depth than I can provide you here in this forum.)

What are some of the conditions in which your theories will not be successful and what advice can you propose to assist a person in this situation?
Mar 2, 9:27AM EST0

Hi GEORGE MAVRIDIS,

Like a high tide rises all boats, the level of understanding, desire and drive to evolve each person has rises or falls according to their level of consciousness. If  a person's heart is not committed at this time to profound growth and evolution, my books are not the ones they will gravitate to.  That is no problem at all! If that was the case, I would advise them to read other terrific writers such as Pam Grout, Cheryl Strayed and Elizabeth Gilbert and see if the person resonates more with these wonderful women's writing.

What a person needs  for their highest and greatest Good changes and evolved over time and I would ALWAYS advise to follow where your own heart leads and do what feels right to you.

All Truth is subjective and everyone will be attracted to the level of Truth that most makes sense to them at any moment in time.

I hope this answers your question. Feel free to ask another if you wish.

In what ways, have the principals outlined in your book, helped you in your own life and what measures do you personally take to maintain your state of being?

Mar 2, 9:20AM EST0

Hi TANJA ROSIC,

Gosh great question and one that I really think you would have to read my book to fully understand the answer. The short answer though would be to say that my life transformed from a contact place of inner torment to a now a constant state of Love, Joy, and Peace.

As far as your question about the "measures" I "personally take to maintain my state of being," I would have to say I practice with all my heart what principles and gifst of growth I have received by the Grace of God and I have shared in my book, and that my daily spiritual practice of doing my very best to be loving, compassionate, forgiving, and kind to all living things, at all times, without exception, including myself, keeps me very focused indeed.

I hope this answers your question. If you have another question, please feel free to ask.

What was the intended goal of writing, Survive To Thrive 11 Keys To Unlock Your Thriving Life, and do you believe you have achieved this goal and why?
Mar 2, 6:28AM EST0

Hi VKWM,

I actually never had a specific intended goal for "Survive To Thrive 11 Keys To Unlock Your Thriving Life," other than to be of service to humanity. Only time will tell if the readers who do read my book cover to cover will find it to be of service to them.

Perhaps one day you or your friends will read my book and then you can let me know from a more informed perspective if I have met my goal of being of service to you or your friends or not! Lol.

I hope this addresses your question, at least in part. Feel free to ask another question and I will do my very best to answer it.

How do you stay disciplined when life throws constant curve balls....?

Mar 2, 5:56AM EST1

Hi PAULA BOUCHER,

That is such a great question! Life does "appear" indeed to throw us all constant "curve balls" doesn't it? Lol.

This question would fall into the realm of the KEY of PEACE in my book, "Survive To Thrive 11 Keys To Unlock Your Thriving Life."

The only time we do not feel PEACE is when we argue with reality.  We might find ourselves saying,"This thing, person, event isn't going the way I want, or need, or expect, or whatever."

In and of its Self the thing, person or event just "Is." It holds no energy. However, we give the said thing, person or event   a massive amount of very charged energy by being attached to a particular expectation we have about "HOW IT SHOULD BE or HOW IT SHOULD GO!" This goes for our perception of anything we choose to call a "curve ball."

A thing, person, or event can only be given the name of "curve ball" if we don't like it or don't expect it or it makes us uncomfortable in some way. If we simply chose to stay in a place of PEACE, remaining diciplined to stay totally in the present moment, unattached to ANY notion of how a thing "should" be, a someone "should" behave, an event "should" go, then we choose to dicipline ourselves to be simply PRESENT. From a place of PEACE then we ALLOW the given event, person or thing to simply BE what IT IS, without ANY expectation of outcome.

As I say in my book, we cannot control the cards we are dealt, but we can always control how we respond to them. When we dicipline ourselves to simply BE PRESENT, then we discover we can stay in the place of the peaceful observer. This means that we dicipline ourselves at all times and in all situations to watch whatever it is unfold, and ALLOWING all to be just As It Is. When we choose that option then everything that Is all unfolds moment to moment, in all its inherent and spectacular splendor, and requires no "fixing" or "changing" by us and therefore, it ultimately, is not even interpreted as or labled as a "curve ball."

Our respond -ability then becomes our PEACE practice and dicipline. No argument with reality? No "problem" or "curve ball."

Without the self created and self imposed - the CHOSEN stress of arguing within ourselves about whether something - anything - is good/bad, right/wrong, etc, we then simply ALLOW whatever it is to just be what it is going to be anyway, no matter what we say or do. Lol.

When we choose to embrace things as they already are, with no help or judgement or intervention by us, then we respectfully allow Life - and everything in it - to be. Life then becomes a moment to moment beautiful unfoldment. This unfoldment is already full of it's already inherent radiant beauty and Love at all times. We just can't see it because we are focused elsewhere on all the "curve balls."

Things only get the label of "curve ball" then, or "bad" if we ourselves choose to give it that title. In and of itself, ANY thing, person or event is simply unfolding according to its own inherent nature and level of consciousness, including each of us. I constantly say in my book, "If people could do better, they would do better." This goes for anything where consciousness is present, which is, of course, All That Is.

In a nutshell then, being "diciplined" is simply allow ALL That Is to continue to be All That Is. When we stop trying to tell God to do a better job at the unfoldment of All That Is, the constant unfoldment of creation that God has already been doing without our help, thank you very much, since the beginning of time, this  will transform all "curve balls" into the response of, "Wow. Didn't see that one coming." with a laugh and then moving on to the next moment of life's constant unfoldment without constant judgement, criticism or expectation.

Everything just "Is." Our opinions about what already "Is" - even labeling things "curve balls" - is just our own vanity and ego. I ultimately came to the conclusion that in Reality, I really don't know anything. As I say in my book, "Just because I know a lot about China, doesn't make me Chinese." You have to be something to truly understand it's nature. The nature of a cat doesn't become a dog. So who is to say what is even "the ultimate definition of the concept of "curve ball." "To one person, a happening can be a disaster "curve ball," and to another that same moment can be perceived as "the ultimate oppotunity" to see God at It's most Creative. Lol. Every life's "curve ball" holds an opportunity to observe how we are either at PEACE with life or put ourselves in our own hell by arguing with it.

Take this idea out for a test drive in your life Paula Boucher and and see how it works for you. I hope those "curve balls" you speak of ultimately become a constant source of great amusement as you dicipline yourself to notice all the many times you,- and everyone else around you - argues with reality when they could be enjoying the amazing show!

I hope this in some way addresses your very good question. It is a question that I - and everyone else on this planet who is a spiritual seeker - is working through in our own way, at whatever level of consciouss we have chosen. Feel free to ask another question if you have one.

If kids shouldn’t be using gadgets and computers too much, do you think e-books should be exceptions to the rule?
Mar 2, 3:41AM EST0

Hi HAZY GRACY,

Interesting question, and one which requires some thought. It is not my place to tell parents how to raise their children or how much time their children - or anyone else for that matter - should be spending on their computers, gadgets or reading E-Books.

Having said that, it is my personal belief that we all spend way too much time now staring at a computer screen, E-books included. This is proven now to be affecting our health and our abilty to sleep well. this isn;t good for anyone;s mental or physical health.

Getting outside to feel the air and the breeze and taking a walk allowing our minds to rest and recharge is essential for my own thriving life. I personally prefer a real live book in my hands to staring at my ipad reading a book. But an ipad with all your books on it and not carrying around all that weight is an amazing development these days and cannot be beaten in terms of convenience.

I suppose given the availability of violent video games, illicit porn, and mindless internet surfing, an E-book would be a more preferable choice. One might say it could be viewed as "an exception to the rule" as you point out.

But it is not in my nature to dictate to anyone what they should and should not do and I am in no position to judge anyone for the choices they ultimately make in their lives, kids or adults.

This may appear to be a "cop out," answer to your question,  but It is my belief that everyone does the best they can according to the level of consciousness where they are. I am only responsible for being the boss of me, not to dictate to others what should be right for them.

Therefore, I can tell you that I alternate between holding real books in my hands and reading on an ipad with the rest of my books available anytime, anywhere. This is my personal compromise. But I would not presume to tell parents, kids or anyone else what is right for them. To each his own.

Having said all of the above, I consciously chose to release my latest,  "Survive To Thrive 11 Keys To Unlock Your thriving Life" first as a paperback book and have delayed the release of the E Book for just a short bit of time. I wanted to personally encourage the inital people interested in reading my book to once again have the pleasure of holding a real book in their hands instead of staring at a screen to read it.

But in the not too distant future, when both paperback and E Book versions of my book will be available for purchase to the general public, each person will of course be completely entitled to make the choice of which format is best for them. I have no attachment to which format they choose, or even if they choose to read it all. The people who need what I have to offer will be drawn to it by the nature of their consciousness, as "like attracts like."

I hope that in part answers your question. Feel free to ask another if you have one.

If given the opportunity to write in another genre, which genre would you choose, and why?
Mar 2, 2:43AM EST0

Hi GEORGE MAVRIDS,

Oh that is such a great question! I think I would write in the spy novel genre. In fact I started an idea for a spy novel a few years ago and it is still sitting in a file on my computer, quite unfinished. Lol.

I would love to write an alter ego character of a female " total badass" and have her solve all kinds of cool cases while working in disguise or "under cover" of playing another character. Why? It would be fun and is probably an alter ego of myself?! Haha.

Fun question and who knows? I may feel compelled to finish that novel one day! Lol. Thanks for your question. Feel free to ask another if you have one.

You mentioned you worked in radio too; what kind of radio show did you host before?
Mar 2, 1:15AM EST0

Hi HINAGY,

For Blog Talk Radio, I hosted a radio show called "Business Off The Beaten Path" and it was awarded Best Of Blog Talk Radio one year. There I interviewed all kinds of really interesting people - artists, business people, thought leaders- who were each in their own way forging the future of business worldwide.

The radio shows I mentioned were with Imagination Theatre out of Washington, where I playedcharacters in a radio plays for various shows. These radio shows were modern versions of the "Old Time Radio Shows" where people would gather around the radio and listen to a radio play. I absolutely loved doing those shows.

I also really enjoyed working with Jim French, the Founder of Imagination Theatre, who passed away this year, and also Larry Albert. With Jim French's death in 2017, it thus ended my 25 year association with them both. I really do miss doing the runing roles I had on several shows and then filling in on various characters as needed for other radio shows over many years. Jim and Larry produced together over many years.

I hope that answers your question. Feel free to post another if you wish!

Here's another question.  How can your book help me reach my financial, career and relationship goals?

Mar 1, 10:28PM EST0

Hi Again ROCKWELL,

Great question. It has been my experience that all of our financial, career and relationship issues are tied into - and driven by - our beliefs and thoughts we carry about them. We repeat these same thoughts to ourselves over and over throughout the day.

I used to have some pretty shitty mantras and I tell a great story about this in my book. Did you know that the average person has about 65,000 thoughts a day and most of them are negative? That is a lot of negative thoughts most of us are all pounding ourselves with day after day,  week after week and year after year?! I certainly did too until I figured that one out. I caught my negative thinking red handed and then made some really dramatic changes and my life seemed to "spin on a dime" as they say, and all for the better!!

I cover many ideas  about how to reach financial, career and relationship goals in my book and these ideas are scattered throughout the book in the 11 KEYS - especially in the KEY of ABUNDANCE,  the KEY of GRATITUDE the KEY of LOVE and the KEY of PEACE. But in essence, observing your moment to moment thoughts, and becoming aware of what you are telling yourself is a great place to start.

Our beliefs are just the thoughts we think over and over and over again. We don't get what we deserve. We get what we *think* we deserve!!! Funny isn't it that we all wonder why nothing changes? What we focus on expands. Negative thoughts reinforce  the experience you will receive because what we focus on expands into our experience in direct proportion to our thoughts.

When you change your thoughts and beliefs, you truly change your reality. Truly believing that you are deserving of your abundantly awesome life, be it in the  financial, career or relationship areas-  will become your reality th moment you truly decide to shift your reality from one of just surviving into one of Thriving.

I would suggest you read my new book and apply some of the ideas to your own life. Just give it a go, and take some of the ideas I offer in the book and give them a test drive in your own life.  Then please email me at maryanne@WordsToThriveBy.com and let me know how your life is changing! Don't foget to sign up for the Thrive Tribe email list while you are there too at www.WordsToThriveBy.com. I wish you all the best in your search and your Journey ROCKWELL!

This should give you plenty to do, but if you have another question, feel free to ask it.

Speaking as a publisher, what are some of the best-selling book genres today?
Mar 1, 6:20PM EST0

Hi SPENCERJOSHUA,

These days, the bestseller lists would appear to be completely dominated by thrillers/mysteries, romance novels, and YA (young adult.) Literary fiction titles are also a regular staple of books sold in a typical year of book sales.

Other book genres — Westerns, hard Science Fction, non-YA (Young Adult) fantasy, and horror novels not written by Stephen King — are much less likely to appear in the best seller lists.

According to the latest research online, the most popular books of all time are grouped into eight genres outlined below:

  • children's fiction,
  • fantasy,
  • mystery,
  • classic literary fiction (up to 1950s),
  • modern literary fiction (after 1950s),
  • magic realism,
  • historical fiction,
  • YA fiction.

As you can see "inspirational," "motivational" and "self help" books are not among them. However, the publisher, Hay House, does a very fine job representing in that genre and has many fine authors writing books under their publishing banner, including one of my very favorites, Pam Grout.

I hope that helps clarify your question. If you have another one, feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer.

Mary Anne, what does "Thriving" mean to you?  How will I know if I am thriving?

Mar 1, 5:50PM EST1

Hi ROCKWELL,

Great questions!

Short answer:

You will know if you are thriving if you feel and are surrounded with LOVE, JOY and PEACE in your life. That's what Thriving means to me, and focusing on LOVE, JOY and PEACE are how I live every day now.

Longer answer:

There is an old story about a beggar sitting on a box on the side of the road holding out a begging bowl. Unknown to him, the box he was sitting on was filled with gold, which would have relieved him completely of the need to ever beg again. But because he didn’t know that, and believed that he was sitting on an ordinary box, day after day he complained of how hard, difficult and unfair life was. All the while, this beggar was sitting on top of infinite riches.

I never imagined that I, like the beggar sitting on that box of gold, had an incredible power within me to change my own life. It had always been there, right inside me all along. All my answers about how to change my life were hiding right there within me. I just had to understand what my attachments and aversions were, and then figure out where and from whom they had come.

I learned over time that we get the majority of our unconscious programming from our family and the culture we grew up in. I finally realized that all my programming in my own subconscious wasn’t even mine! Amazing realization!  It became clear that all this programming was a form of propaganda, which had actually come from someone and somewhere else- teachers, ministers, society, my culture, my parents! Once I understood this very important truth, I realized that if a program or programming I had chosen to believe up to that point wasn’t mine, I could choose to discard or change it in favor of a different one. What freedom!

Once I changed some of my limiting beliefs about myself, which had been located in my subconscious blueprint from the past, my life in the present began to shift and change dramatically and I was well on my way to the thriving life I live now.

I'm not sure what limiting beliefs that you have right now ROCKWELL, but you are definitely asking the right questions to figure all that out.  I am quite convinced - from my own life experience - that that if you knew for sure that your thriving was only a change of belief and thought away, you might consider making some changes and  find that your life will start to shift. It is my hope that "Survive To Thrive 11 Keys To Unlock Your Thriving Life" will help.guide you in the direction of your own thriving life, whatever that means to you.

I hope that helps to answer your question. If you have another you would like to ask me, don't hesitate to ask and I will answer the best I can.

I would love to buy this for my son when is your book available and where can I purchase it from please.

Mar 1, 4:30PM EST0

Hi FIONA OGILVIE,

How wonderful! The book is coming online in distribution channels around the world as we speak. At this point, best guess is it will be available by end of March in both paperback and E Book versions.

If you want to order it via your local bookseller, give them the following information and they can get it for you:

Give them the title, "Survive To Thrive 11 Keys To Unlock Your Thriving Life," my name, Mary Anne Dorward and the ISBN:

ISBN 13: 978-0-9963691-4-5 Paperback

If you are looking for the E Book version below is the E Book ISBN to use with the title of the book and my name. (E Books and Paperback books have different ISBN numbers)

ISBN 10: 978-0-9963691-5-2 E-book

I hope that helps. If you would like me to send you an email when the book comes out, please send me an email via my www.WordsToThriveBy.com website in the contact page and I will let you know ASAP when it is available for purchase. While you are there, feel free also to sign up for the Thrive Tribe mailing list at www.WordsToThriveBy.com!

I am sorry it is not available yet but I hope this is enough information for you and others to get a copy ASAP! Feel free to also ask another question if you wish! And please do let me know how your son likes the book!

Would you ever consider going back to the stage once again? Do you miss acting?
Mar 1, 4:20PM EST0

Hi MAJAS,

I absolutely would consider going back on stage, film or radio again if the project and the role was something I was interested in.  I really enjoyed my time working as an actress and would be totally open to returning to that expression of my soul again at any point in the future!

I hope that answers your question. Feel free to ask a follow up if you would like more information.

You mentioned you’re a publisher too; how do you choose books that may be launched and released to the public?
Mar 1, 3:27PM EST0

Hi MICHAEL NJIRU,

Powerful Voices Press publishes inspirational and transformational books, and  I choose books by authors who share my commitment to expanding the world's understanding of the  immense power which thoughts and beliefs have on creating our own reality.

I hope that this answers your question. If you have another question, please feel free to ask!

What exactly are the 11 Keys you write about in your book?

Mar 1, 3:23PM EST0

Hi PUKEKO,

The 11 KEYS to a Thriving Life are:

CHOICES, GUIDANCE, HEALTH, LOVE, GRATITUDE, PEACE, ABUNDANCE, JOY, IMAGINATION, FREEDOM, POWER.

I hope that answers your question. If you have another, feel free to ask!

Mar 1, 3:27PM EST1

That shift you mention, does it happen quick, is it a matter of making a choice and doing it from one day to the next or it takes long? Are there cases where people start that change and revert back to their old ways and if so - how to avoid that? Does changing location and circle of friends help?

Mar 1, 12:40PM EST0

Hi MANDY JBREE,

Great questions! The shift from Survive to Thrive can happen in an instant if we are open to it. But most of us continue to live our days caught up in old ideas, thoughts and beliefs that really no longer serve us. However, because these thoughts and belief's are so familiar, and we know them so well, and we know what to expect even if it is bad, we totally hang on to them and we get the same results as before in our life experience?!

I once heard a great definition of insanity as "doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different result."  Lol! But that is what most of us do every day, right?!

CHOICES is the MASTER KEY to a truly Thriving life. Each of our choices, moment to moment, day to day, week to week, year to year actually determine what our Life Journey becomes about, and what story we will tell about ourselves,  in the end. It is all those littel and big choices that determine also whether we will continue to choose to suffer or whether we will create new thoughts and beliefs that take us more into our Thrive Drive where we can then create a truly thriving life of our dreams!

SURVIVE

When I was in “Survival mode,” I can remember saying to myself many times, “Uh Oh! This does not look good!” Often I felt as if I were some character in a horror movie. I saw my life completely falling apart before my eyes. I lost everything I cared about, and at one point, I felt like giving up on life entirely. But I did not give up.

After a lot of trial and error, going around in circles and searching for a new direction, I discovered there were 11 Keys that I had used over and over to move past the obstacles I had faced. These keys were instrumental in getting me out of my Survival mode and on to the path towards the truly fulfilling and Thriving life which I live now.

As I learned to make better choices that moved me forward (even in small steps) the quality of my life improved. And yes some of that involved changing locations and my circle of friends Mandy! These moments of triumph gave me the strength and courage to continue in my quest to Thrive.

In addition to making more informed choices in my life, I found that I could choose more positive thoughts, and this carried me even further. As I used my 11 Keys, my Thriving life became my new reality. This new life was full of new and unexpected opportunities, people, and adventures. I now live half a world away from where I was born with a man I love. I never would have imagined that when I started on my journey.

Many people choose to stay in what I call the “pity pit,” where they feel that they will never escape from what has happened in the past, what is happening right now, or what may happen in the future. People who are accustomed to being the unfortunate victim in life seem to gravitate towards self-pity.

Do these phrases sound familiar Mandy?

“Why does this always happen to me?”

“Poor me!”

“No one understands me!”

“I can’t!”

“I’m not strong enough, brave enough, pretty enough, smart enough.”

“I’ll never be able to!”

These are the common refrains of people caught in the middle of the “pity pit.” If we believe that we can’t overcome an obstacle or improve our situation, we will work hard to justify that belief. As with any mistaken belief, we will effectively make sure that we remain stuck in that situation. Conversely, if we believe that anything is possible and that we can handle whatever difficulty comes into our life, we are much more likely to be open to achieve success.

We have all seen how some people allow various difficult life experiences to completely destroy them. We can make a different choice and accept the possibility that although life may be difficult at this moment, our situation can change and things can even improve dramatically. In spite of how things may look now, we can choose to move beyond just Surviving and transform our lives into an expression of Thriving.

But as you say Mandy, we might go back and forth a bit between making changes and then reverting back to our old ways, and then make more changes and moving forward again, for quite awhile as we get used to creating a new life for ourselves, a life and/or lifestyle that serves us better.

THE ROUNDABOUT

Between moving from Survive to Thrive, we enter what I call The Roundabout.  The Roundabout is a period of transition during which we may open our minds to find we have more choices than we at first believed. Once we are in The Roundabout, we might discover we actually do have the courage to explore new and exciting places and different types of people. As an example, these kinds of questions might signal our entry into The Roundabout:

“Why does this always happen to me?”

“I thought I understood this. But now, it seems as though I have just made one giant circle and I am back where I started. How did that happen?”

“Didn’t I just pass that same exit a minute, a year, a decade ago?”

Or it might sound something like this:

“How did I get involved with that same type of person, again?”

“How did I make that same mistake, again?”

“How did I let that person get to me, again?”

“This always happens to me!”

We might circle The Roundabout quite a few times before we find the exit that takes us to where we really need to go. We might, as you say Mandy, need to change our location or ditch some of our "downer" friends as a part of our Roundabout period. Perhaps we will find that eventually, even having done those things, we have tried every exit on The Roundabout except for one.

I have found that this unmarked exit is that persistent thought, idea, direction or person that I have been dismissing as illogical or nonsensical. I have even said to myself, “It can’t be that easy.” But after having been stuck in that endless circle of disappointment and frustration, we might be ready to take our chance.

Out of desperation, we might even find ourselves saying, “I have tried absolutely everything I can think of. Nothing has worked. Perhaps now I am ready to try something really different. Perhaps now I will follow that thought or idea, choose that person or take that improbable exit, since I’ve tried everything else.”

It helps to ask ourselves the right questions. At first our questions might sound like this:

“How did I miss that?”

“Why didn’t I follow my intuition?”

Then, we might ask, more constructively:

“If I had the chance to do this again, what would I do differently?”

“What would my ideal outcome look like?”

When we are ready to ask these kinds of questions and then take action on our honest answers to them, that’s when things can really change for the better. You could say, at this point we are moving into our “Thrive Drive.”

THRIVE

When we begin to truly Thrive, new jobs, people and other unexpected opportunities start showing up. When our life begins to improve, we may even be tempted to settle for “good enough” instead of pushing towards an even better life experience. Once we recognize that good enough isn’t all there is, we can strive to live the life that we have always dreamed of but never really thought we could attain. At that point, things in our life seem to get even better.

You then might find yourself saying things like:

“Wow!”

“This is amazing!”

“I had no idea I could have so much fun or be this happy or feel this fulfilled in my life!”

“I love my life!”

“Thank you Universe!”

When I realized that I had gone from just Surviving to Thriving I could not believe how good I felt. I now have much more energy. I feel that I am enjoying every day to the fullest and I sleep more peacefully than I ever have before. I also met the man of my dreams, got married and moved to Oceania, where I now live. I go paddle boarding and kiteboarding, take peaceful walks, create art and music, talk with people and write. This is my thriving life.

What will yours look like Mandy?

Your Thriving Life

It is well within your power Mandy to achieve everything you have ever wanted in your life - and more! Whatever problems you may be having with your relationships, your career, your health or your life at this moment, you can change it all for the better. It is my hope that the gift of learning that I have found through my life experiences will spark some new ideas to help you discover and create for yourself the thriving life of your own dreams.

I can’t, and won’t, tell you - or anyone else - what to do. As Cheryl Strayed says in her book Brave Enough, “I’m not trying to be the boss of you. I’m attempting to be a better boss of me.” So, feel free to reject anything I have said above in my answer above to your great questions.

If I could say one thing that probably answers all three of your questions in a nutshell it would be this: ALWAYS trust your own intuition about what YOU FEEL is right for you. Don't listen to me or anyone else about that. Only YOU know WHAT IS BEST AND RIGHT FOR YOU! All of us make mistakes and can learn from each other. But as the Buddha said, Place no head above your won." Don't let ANYONE tell you that their way of solving things is exactly what you should or should not do.

For that matter feel free to reject anything I say here or in my book. Feel free to  read my book, or not. And If you do read my book, and any of the 11 Key sections of  book don’t interest you, skip ’em. Seriously. You’re the boss of you!

Gosh this is probably a waaaay longer answer than you were expecting?!!!! Your questions just raise such great opportunities to share at least a little of what I have learned along the way, and I just couldn't resist giving your great quesitons the courtesy and depth of response they deserved!

Feel free to ask another if you have one and I will do my best to answer it next time a bit shorter! Lol! But thanks for these three great questions all rolled into one!

Would you recommend this book to college students so they can be ready before facing the “real world”?
Mar 1, 9:44AM EST0

Hi MLADEN JAGODIC,

Absolutely! It would be great if people, both men and women of college age would consider reading this book! Hopefully they could benefit from the various choices I made and directions I explored and not make the same mistakes that I did! Lol!

It is interesting that you bring up the "real world." I talk a lot about that in my book. One of the things I learned over many years of my adventures is that what I thought was a solid "real world" was in fact much more of a "quantum reality" which was profoundly influenced by my thoughts and beliefs than I ever imagined possible. I was in fact "creating my reality" at every moment, for both good and ill. Once I understood that truly anything was possible, my whole world shifted dramatically and I began to create a life and world and "reality" if you will that was hugely different! I think if college students understood just that one Truth, and that they have more power than they realize to change their world, it could make all the difference in their future lives once they are graduated.

I hope that answers at least a little of your question. I know how scary it can be to leave the safety of school and step out into a new future where you are expected to handle things on your own! But having some great tools for life as I cover in the each of the 11 KEYS I designed to help you to unlock your Thriving Life - the Thriving Life of your own design - can be a great start.  If you even took just one of the KEYS and challenged yourself to work on the spiritual principles in there, it would give you plenty to practice for sure, and for quite awhile! Lol!

I am certainly glad - and frankly relieved- to have discovered and to know now that that life is a Spiritual Practice, and each person always does the best they can with what they know at the time. Just like they tell you in that opening safety speech on the airplanes about putting your own oxygen mask on first,  - that saving yourself first is the only way to keep yourself alive to be of any help to others, - each of us are really only responsible for the lessons our unique soul came to earth in order to learn! If I had known that one when I graduated from college, I wonder if I would have lived a very different life and made some very different choices indeed! Lol.

And like a high tide lifts all boats, raising your level of consciousness actually influences everyone else in a positive way. So doing what you are passionate about which generates all that positive energy and contribution in the world, and trusting your intuition about what direction to go after college, will not only be of benefit to you personally, but also be of service to the world! So take all that great energy you have and put it to good use in your future after you leave college!

Feel free to ask another question if you wish. I am happy to do my very best to answer.
