I have been writing since I was 13, I started with english poetry. I then moved to writing spanish poetry, I wrote my first novel as a challenge a friend proposed to me during NaNoWriMo. I started a poetry blog 3 years ago, but since then have expanded it to include my photography, short stories and my novels, the one I have and the ones in development. I have learned some strategies that work for gaining website traffic during this process, as well sites that work to market your books and sites that do not.

Do you wish to pursue your career in Clinical Psychology in future?
Mar 13, 2:34AM EDT0

Most definitely. I’m going yo spend the next four years studying; so at least a minimum of 5 years, hopefully a max of 10 years. What I really want; is to eventually be able to write full time.

Did you make any marketing mistakes or is there anything you would avoid in future?

Mar 13, 2:33AM EDT0

Yes I did. I think my biggest marketing mistake was not marketing and finding reviewers before my book was reviewed. Of course I had no knowledge that this had to be done but now I do. As for avoiding just sites some sites that I know do not work.

What changes have you seen in the indie writer world since your first book published?
Mar 12, 2:43PM EDT0

If I'm going to be completely honest I haven't seen much. I published my book on amazon, which is a lot of self marketing, so when you publish your book you don't just automatically belong the community. That's something I myself am still working on. There are groups on Facebook that I am a part of, but I haven't seen much activity there. I think this world is still in development, at least from my stand point of view.

If you could have been the original author of any famous poetry book, what would it have been and why?
Mar 12, 11:35AM EDT0

Wow, that is a very hard question. Although I wrote poetry, I tend to read more fiction novels, romance, YA and such. When I do read poetry it is usually online from unknown authors. If you were to say that about books in general, I would say all of Jane Austen's books; specifically Pride & Prejudice. But with as well known as Homer's books are I'd say maybe the Iliad or the Odyssey, that would be great exposure as an author.

Is there anything about the writing life that you think is misunderstood by the public, and why do you believe this misconception exists?
Mar 11, 1:22PM EDT0

I think this misconception is for everyone, just becasue you write a book you sell books, like no its a hard marketing process especially for self published authors. Of the top of my head I can't think of anything else, but I'll reply again if something else comes to mind.

If there is one thing you wished people knew about treatment or mental illness, what would it be and why?
Mar 11, 1:10PM EDT0

Yes definitely, people think mental illnesses like a game. Like oh your depressed, your just really bummed out snap out of it. Or if a kids hyper like oh he must be ADHD, and its like no it's not that easy, nor does everyone have the illness and when they do it's a serious thing.

What is the most unethical practice in the publishing industry?
Mar 11, 11:16AM EDT0

I haven't been in the publishing industry long enough to know all the unethical practices or what can be considered unethical. However I would probably say that spamming individuals with products, in my opinion is pretty unethical. That and stealing someones work, that is a very strong DO NOT DO.

What seems to be the biggest obstacle for clients in therapy?
Mar 11, 10:40AM EDT0

Well, I'm still in basic training of therapy but from what I have seen so far, from what I've been thought and from what my professor have experienced I would say it's that initial rapport. It's not easy opening up to a complete stranger, especially when you just met them and when you know that their job is to help you understand your problems. I think that is hard for anyone and can be the biggest obstacle for clients.

What are the basic guidelines to writing poetry?
Mar 10, 9:27PM EST0

I personally don’t follow any guidelines I go where my heart and mind take me. However there are rules an author can follow, for example. One can rhyme aa bb, or abab, you can do specific sentence length or word counts like haikus. It really all depends on your style and what you like.

What has been one of your most rewarding experiences as an author?
Mar 10, 8:48PM EST0

Hmmm, I think to most rewarding so far is just knowing you did it, you actually published a book. But then when you get new followers, or high sales that’s also pretty rewarding. I think the most rewarding thing will be seeing my name in the best selling authors list, hasn’t happened yet, but I’m sure one day it will.

What is the greatest book you have read related to mental health, psychology or psychotherapy?
Mar 10, 4:19PM EST0

You know I haven’t read a specific book about it if youbare refering to like a novel. I’ve read books for class and what not, but I guess the best would be the DSM 5 since it has all the mental disorders. But as for a novel, none yet, sadly.

What is the biggest myth about therapy?
Mar 10, 3:19PM EST0

Wow, umm, I’d probably see what people expect. You go thinking a few sessions will give you a whole new perspective on something or you’ll be magically cured of something, and it’s not like that at all. Situations take work and dedication, most times a lot of it.

What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book?
Mar 10, 1:57PM EST0

Honestly, not much, I do believe research is important, but I write about life experiences, so there’s usually no need to research what you have lived personally or been affected by somehow. There is a book I am writing though that will require a lot of reaserch because I dont know a lot about military ranks. There are some terms I have researched but it’s been minimal. However I do think that the amount of research needed depends on the type of book being written.

If you had your schooling and career choice to do all over again, would you choose the same professional path? If not, what would you do differently and why?
Mar 10, 11:38AM EST0

Uuuu love, love, love the question. No I would not choose the same professional path, while I do enjoy psychology, nothing compares to writing, and I would study as much of it as I could. I would take theatre classes, I would take, singing classes, I would take dance classes, panting and drawing classes, I would devote everything in my life to art, In a way i can not do now.

However if I were to go back to a more simple change I wouldn't study business administration and just focus on writing and psychology.

Who inspires your writing the most, whether positively or negatively?

Mar 10, 11:28AM EST0

Hahahahaa this is question is hard, because it's personal lol. More than who I would say what, what inspires my writing is life events, some life events have given me great stories, others have stopped me from writing all together, for a while at least. However I do have to say there is one person who seems to always inspire not only my writing but the way I think and how I feel.

From what point of origin does a poem develop; an idea, a form or an image, and why do you consider this to be true?
Mar 10, 10:59AM EST0

Wow, I never thought about this. Not sure about a form but with me personally usually it's none of these. My poetry is almost always inspired by emotios. When it isn't inspired by emotions, which is very rare then by an idea or an image, much more likely an idea. I guess I consider this to be true because I've experiencied it first hand and seen in others poetry as well.

How many unpublished and half-finished books do you have?
Mar 10, 10:25AM EST0

Hahaha so many, unpublished one, but that's going to change soon. Half finished I believe at the moment I have between 7-9. I have so many ideas in my head I'm not sure how I'll finish them all. But I think I've figured out an order I want to publish them in. I also have like 3-5 more books I haven't even started just ideas in my head.

What's your biggest challenge in writing career? :)

Are you happy? :)

Mar 10, 8:59AM EST0

This made me laugh, well I have two challenges not one, which I am currently facing. One overcoming procrastination, between my doctorates, reading, the gym and other things somehow I always manage to put off writing. Also marketing,  it’s hard, it’s tough, and there’s no guarantee that what worked for someone else will work for you, I am still figuring a lot of this out. Some things work, others don’t, but the ones that do always bring more motivation to keep going.

As for being happy, I remember one of my classmates asked if it’s possible to truly be happy, to which the professor replied that it is possibly to be content. To feel satisfied, to feel acceptance even if you want more. I believe this is how I feel, there are some things I am not content with but it is my general feeling.

Living in Puerto Rico along with me. How was your experience with the hurricane and did it infulence your writing. In other words, did it inspire you more?

Mar 10, 8:52AM EST0

Great question. My experience was interesting because after the hurricane I felt blessed, sure I had no power, little water, no cell sercvice, but I was alive and so was my family. I still had a home and my animals were ok,  I felt bored at times afterward not being able to do anything or go anywhere because there was no gas either, but I was able to read 30 books in like a month maybe less. I was woried that my mom was freaking out cause she couldn’t contact me fron Connecticut, which she was, when I finally talked to her let’s just say she was very relieved. I got to experince a lot of things people who came before me did, and I feel so blessed to live in a time where things can be so much easier.  As for my writing, yes it did inspire me, which you will see in my work to come, I will say no more, I hate spoilers.
