Sekhmet  - The Making of a New Breed is the first book of my new series. Please feel free to ask me anything regarding the book or writing in general.

In Sekhmet – Making of a New Breed, author Lana Anderson applies a new twist to the vampire myth where a scientist, forced against his will to become a vampire to create a new breed of vampire immune to the sun, reneges on his deal and incurs wrath of Seth. But can the scientist see through his plan and destroy Seth, or will he be destroyed before he can see through his revenge?

Do you think vampires are real?

Jan 5, 2:38AM EST0

Well, I choose to believe they are real and this is why I wanted to give them plausible reasoning on certain things. Such as garlic….Immortal until they meet their match with garlic clove….. Seriously that’s a bit unbelievable isn’t it LOL So I gave that a reasoning, not that it killed them but that with their heightened sense of smell it is hard for them to stand the odour. But it won’t save you if they really want you; it will only keep them away if they have no reason to go near you in the first place 😉I have tried to keep a scientific approach to all things to do with vampires, going so far as to make the vampire a disease, more than some mythical creature with no faults.I’m also leading readers to believe that this book is really Eve’s journal, not written by me but just found at her house, in her secret hiding spot, within her octagon tower and published. Yes her house is a real house that still stands proud today 😊

Are all vampires same or graded differently?

Dec 15, 4:55AM EST0

Well no, the older they are the more the disease becomes part of them and the stronger they become. Also they are just people so they are all different just as we are different 😉

Dec 15, 9:14AM EST0

Are your artworks based on a real life stories and situations?

Dec 13, 2:12PM EST0

Well yes actually, the octagonal tower in the background is part of the house Eve grows up in. This is a real house near the ocean in Fremantle. 😊

Do you see your stories turned into movies in the future?

Dec 8, 10:58PM EST0

I would love them to be 😊 Considering making a movie pitch up and seeing if I can catch someones interest in the movie making world 😊

Dec 15, 9:23AM EST0

Would you recommend gothic horror genre to everyone? Why?

Dec 8, 3:54PM EST0

No, it's something that you have to have the right taste for and everyones tastes are different 😉

Dec 15, 9:25AM EST0

Does reading scary books help people get over fear?

Dec 3, 4:38AM EST0

Well I’m no psychologist and I believe it would depend on what you are scared of. According to Wiki you should expose yourself to your fear gradually. So if you suffer Bibliophobia, which is a relatively uncommon phobia involving the fear of books, you might wish to start with something a little less scary. 😉

Do you do any research while writing this book?

Dec 2, 9:03PM EST0

Yes I did a lot of research on DNA, Gene mutation, history of Fremantle and Egyptian mythology. As well as many other little things I wanted to make sure I got right and were in accordance with the different years I was writing in.

Dec 3, 12:57AM EST0

Have you written other books?

Dec 2, 8:36PM EST0

No this was the first 100000 word book I've written, working on the next one now :)

Dec 3, 12:51AM EST0

If you ever come across a real vampire, how would you react?

Dec 2, 6:04PM EST0

Extremely happy 😊 I’d want to know everything! He/she wouldn’t get a word in for my constant questions LOL Then I’d be onto badgering them to make me one of them 😉

Dec 2, 7:05PM EST0

Are all vampires same or graded differently?

Dec 2, 1:53AM EST0

Well no, the older they are the more the disease becomes part of them and the stronger they become. Also they are just people so they are all different just as we are different 😉

Dec 2, 8:39AM EST0

Are there any differences between zombies and vampires?

Dec 2, 12:51AM EST0

Zombies                                 Vampires

Messy drooling                      Some self respect

Eat brains                               Drink blood

Missing skin                           Skin hard as rock

Can’t form a sentence            Very intelligent

Aren’t bothered by sun          Don’t sun bake

There’s five pretty good differences 😉

What inspired you to write this book?

Dec 1, 11:56PM EST0

I always wanted to be a writer from primary age and for that reason I read a lot. Drawn to the strange and dark mythical fiction I wanted my chance to create even better, more realistic creatures of the shadows. Also living and working in Fremantle for years, I felt it needed a tall tale for its beautiful old architecture and what could be stranger for a vampire tale than the setting of Western Australia? Known for its dry heat and long sunsets, not the typical home for a vampire 😉

Dec 2, 8:18AM EST0

Did you self publish sekhmet?

Dec 1, 11:38PM EST0

No Austin Macauley published my book. First released this year 31 July 😊

Dec 2, 7:51AM EST0

What was the first book you wrote?

Dec 1, 11:12PM EST0

This one Sekhmet – The Making of a New Breed😉 I wrote short stories a lot when I was younger but the world insisted my dream of being an Author was just that ….a dream ‘Get a real job, writing is just a hobby’ I was told. So I did and I climbed the career ladder until I had the high paying good job ….but then I didn’t have the time to write anymore. 10 years passed and I decided to throw away everything I’d worked for to go see the world, before I ran out of time and I was too old to do so. Returned home with a baby boy in the oven and magically found I had more time now, so I thought why not give it a try 😊 I submitted my first 4 chapters to Austin’s and they said they were interested. So with that encouragement, I sat down and wrote the rest over that year. Submitted the final manuscript, to which they agreed to publish. 😊

Could there be an animal vampire?

Dec 1, 10:48PM EST0

Interesting idea, technically I can’t see many reasons why not. I see vampirism as a disease that attacks the host’s internal organs causing them to die and unable to produce the blood required to sustain the host is what causes the blood lust. So the only reason I can see that would cause this process issues in the animal world is the body size of smaller animals but in a tiger why not? It has a larger body mass than us. Mind you a vampire tiger would be just as scary as a normal tiger in the wild ….they are probably both going to rip you to shreds LOL 😉

Dec 2, 4:01AM EST0

Do you have any plans of making sekhmet into a movie?

Dec 1, 10:46PM EST0

I’d love to see it made into a movie or TV series; I believe that’s up to the movie makers to decide if they want to or not though 😉

Dec 2, 3:34AM EST0

Among the characters in your book which one would you prefer to act as?

Dec 1, 4:50PM EST0

Well I'm no actor and I don't really look like any of my characters LOL but I would probably have to pick Eve, as she is my favourite ;)

Dec 1, 7:48PM EST0

Who is your favorite author? Were you ever inspired by any of their books?

Dec 1, 12:55PM EST0

Anne Rice and Brian Lumley are my favourite series authors, they inspired me towards gothic horror. Anne Rice, for her poetic romantic vampires and Brian Lumley, for his dark horrid vampires. I wanted to find a good medium between the two where I still have that romance mixed with that dark horror.

Dec 1, 7:58PM EST0

Is the existence of vampires real or just an imagination?

Dec 1, 12:48PM EST0

Good question 😉 Well, I choose to believe they are real and this is why I wanted to give them plausible reasoning on certain things. Such as garlic….Immortal until they meet their match with garlic clove….. Seriously that’s a bit unbelievable isn’t it LOL So I gave that a reasoning, not that it killed them but that with their heightened sense of smell it is hard for them to stand the odour. For how long have you been writing?

Dec 1, 8:25AM EST0

Since primary school 😉 I once wrote a 10 page story about Vikings in year four, my teacher was amazed by the length and depth I went to at such a young age. I decided to start writing this story over ten years ago when I was working in Fremantle. In the afternoon I would do the x-ray delivery run and walking the old streets of Fremantle, I started dreaming up this story and on my lunch breaks I would do historical research at the library. Unfortunately a change in job saw me working for transport and logistics, working 24/7 meant I no longer had any time to write my story so I put it down. Years later I decided to quit my job and go see the world. On my return I became a mother and could no longer do my job, so I decided since I now had time again I would give an old dream a shot and started writing. The whole book took me less than a year but it had been percolating for 10 years 😉 Now I have a taste for the author life I can’t wait to finish my next book 😉 No more transport and logistics for me 😉

Do you get scared or inspired by your own work.

Nov 30, 8:18AM EST0

Well to start that answer I must say the following quote is a favourite of mine. ‘I don’t suffer from my insanity- I enjoy every minute of it’. I’m always inspired by my work and at the same time also aspiring to do better at bringing myths to life. I want the dark and evil things that go bump in the night, to be real or at least seem plausibly realistic.

I think what scares me most is that I’m not scared LOL. My favourite parts to write are the more violent and horrific sections. One of my favourite parts below 😊

“As he stood there looking at me strangely paralysed with fear, I followed his arm out to the source of the blood and the apparent instrument used to open the door. At first I felt it was barely recognizable as a person, but looking closer I realized it was Professor Chapman, a young professor at the university much like myself, he was quite obviously dead, but the blood was still pouring out of the side of his neck, which was simply not there anymore.”

Dec 1, 12:40AM EST0

Do you have plans to write a sequel?

Nov 26, 10:08PM EST0

More than just a sequel 😊 I have plans to write a whole series 😉

Currently, writing the follow on from this book, Sekhmet - Destiny Awaits. Planning complete, writing now in progress but I always find the first few chapters the hardest, as I like to ensure I have my scene setting perfect.  I also have a lot more new characters to come into this next book, which may end up with their own story eventually.
